Traineeships (16-24)

A Traineeship is a training programme designed to help you towards an Apprenticeship, further education or a job in the sector you want to work in. A Traineeship from Skills Training UK will give you:

  • High-quality work experience
  • The opportunity to study towards vocational qualification(s) in your chosen sector
  • Personal and employability skills for the workplace
  • English and Maths support, if you don’t already have them at GCSE grades 9-4 or equivalent
  • Support to take positive next steps towards your goals

You can choose from sector-specific traineeships which include accredited, nationally-recognised qualifications in your chosen area.

We’re not like school or college; classes are small, your learning programme is tailored to you and our supportive trainers and mentors are always on hand to help.

I loved my journey and really enjoyed all of my courses. I learned how to develop my skills, gained a lot of confidence, made a lot of new friends, and received great support from all of my tutors and assessors.

Who can do a Traineeship?

You are eligible for a Traineeship if:

  • You are aged between 16-24 (or up to age 25 if you have a health and care plan) and not currently in education or training.
  • You have any qualifications up to and including Level 3
  • You are motivated to work
  • You are unemployed, or work fewer than 16 hours per week and have little work experience.

Is a Traineeship right for me?

We will work with you to put together the qualifications, skills and work experience which are right for you.

Our friendly trainers have years of experience teaching and mentoring young people to help them reach their goals.

The sector of the Traineeship is chosen by you. The length of your traineeship may vary depending on what you study – the programmes last between six weeks and six months.

What kind of work experience will I do?

We will match you with an employer who can give you work experience in the sector or subject you have chosen to study.

Your work experience placement will be created to make sure it brings value to both you and the employer you do your experience with. You will complete a minimum of 70 hours work experience.

We work with large and small employers for work experience, including many household names such as M&S, Doubletree by Hilton, DPD and Smyths.

Your Skills Training UK Traineeship

1.What are the benefits of Traineeships?

  • It is totally customised to you. You can choose the sector you want to study and you will study English and Maths as part of the Traineeship if you’re not exempt (by having the necessary qualifications).
  • Traineeships can be a pathway towards taking an Apprenticeship – it can help you bridge a skills or attainment gap to get you hired.
  • It could be the next step to further study.
  • An improved CV – not only can you add your new experience and skills but we will help you write your CV, covering letters and prepare for interviews.

2.What is different about Skills Training UK?

We believe everyone can have a rewarding career, whatever challenges they may face in life.

Our staff are excellent at helping people to learn new skills and enjoy doing it. Training with us means you will never be bored, you will see personal growth and new confidence and you will very likely be delighted with what you achieve.

We can help support you with a flexible and understanding approach to health and economic difficulties, adapting for neurodiversity or other issues which you may be dealing with.

3.Who pays for Traineeships?

The Government funds Traineeships which support the education of 16-24-year-olds, and up to age 25 for people with an education health and care plan.

You won’t be paid during your traineeship, but financial support may be available if you are eligible. If you are aged 18+ and in receipt of benefits, they won’t be affected if you take a Traineeship. You may also be able to apply for the 16-19 Bursary Fund depending on your circumstances.
