A virtual quiz for our Brighton Centre learners who have been working hard to complete vocational training courses online during lockdown was given a surprise twist when the VIP host was unveiled as the Mayor of Brighton and Hove.
The learners pitted their wits against each other on pop music, films and art, as well as the history of Skills Training UK and a special picture round featuring Brighton and Hove Mayor Cllr Alan Robins himself.
The three winners who ‘took home’ shopping vouchers were young learners Mia Saunders, 17, Connor Tester, 17, and Phoebe Lloyd, 19.
Our Brighton Centre, based in North Road in the town centre, provides a range of free vocational options for 16-24 year-olds seeking an alternative to college and sixth form. It has been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic but tutors have continued running courses online with virtual classrooms and one-to-one video support.
Mia, who has recently completed a Traineeship, said: “The virtual quiz was great fun and my personal lockdown highlight! Thank you very much to Skills Training UK for providing the amazing opportunity to meet the Mayor of Brighton and Hove and have a quiz with him.”
Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Cllr Alan Robins, said: “I would like to thank Skills Training UK’s Brighton Centre for allowing me to support their new online learning platform, which includes one-to-one support and fun activities like the fantastic quiz we had, whilst it was also great to virtually meet some of the young people who have worked hard in lockdown to continue their courses and improve their lives.
“As Mayor of Brighton and Hove, I am always happy to be involved with my local community, especially when it is in support of our young people. Maybe next year we can do this in person!”
Young people in England must remain in education until age 18. Our Centres offers a range of Level 2 BTEC qualifications, including English and maths for 16-18s, and Traineeships for 16-24s. All routes offer qualifications in work sectors such as Business Administration and Customer Service.
All learners, many of whom have overcome personal barriers or struggled at school, are also supported to achieve up to Level 2 qualifications in English and maths, helping them to progress into employment, further education or an apprenticeship.
Skills Training UK won the Training Provider of the Year Award at the 2019 Times Educational Supplement (TES) FE Awards and is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Tutors also provide careers advice and support with job searching, CV writing, and interview skills. For more information about our Brighton Centre in North Road, call 01273 666389 or email igniteyoursuccess@skillstraininguk.com.
