World of Books: developing employee futures

West Sussex based World of Books has rapidly become the largest seller of second-hand books in the UK and Europe. The company was set up by book lovers and enthusiasts in 2009 and today employs over 400 people, selling used books online to over 60 countries throughout the world.

The company is constantly evolving and growing and in 2012 it teamed up with Skills Training UK to offer Apprenticeships in Team Leading, Management, Customer Services and Business Improvement Techniques. The Apprenticeships have proved a very successful part of World of Book’s on-the-job training for employees.

Skills Training UK’s Trainer Assessors regularly visit World of Books to give training, assess tasks which have been set and give personal support to each employee.

The outcomes of the training include employees being more confident and doing a better job because they understand what is expected of them in their roles. They are also enjoying the opportunity to gain recognised national qualifications.

The partnership with Skills Training UK has been very successful, we have been delighted by the enthusiasm of our staff to take on the Apprenticeships and see it as a great step forward for the business and for our employees' individual development.
