Employer Story
Skills Training UK has been working in partnership with leading UK manufacturer and designer of ultrasonic probes and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) accessories, GB Inspection Systems Ltd, for the last two years.
We have delivered a range of Apprenticeships to develop the company’s workforce, including those in Performing Manufacturing Operations (PMO) and Digital Marketing.
With our help and support GB Inspections has also played a significant role in the Apprenticeship Trailblazer Group that helped to set the new Apprenticeship Standards for the NDT sector.
Based in Burntwood near Birmingham, the company has enrolled two employees on our NDT Apprenticeship programme – one for Ofqual Level 2 NDT Operator and another for Ofqual Level 3 NDT Engineering Technician.
Our close working relationship has allowed us to create a bespoke package that is specific to their needs – leading to a return on investment that results in a workforce with the right skills and attitudes to be of real value.
The relationship we have with Skills Training UK has gone from strength to strength. They know exactly what we are looking for and understand the aims of our business. I’ve always been a fan of promoting youth – to my mind it’s the best way forward. We’ve now got a good mix of age groups and that can only be an advantage.
Neil Smith, General Manager at GB Inspection Systems Ltd

An apprenticeship was always a route I wanted to go down. I was unhappy in my previous job and there was limited chance to progress. However now I can really see a future. I’m really looking forward to pushing on and reaching the next level. Everyone – GB Inspections and Skills Training UK – has been so supportive. It’s made a real difference.

I never thought when I left school that I’d be doing physics and things like that. But it’s practical, on the job learning. I’m not really someone who can sit down and read a book, I’d rather be getting hands on experience
Tyler Sharrock, 17, former PMO Apprentice now enrolled for Ofqual Level 2 NDT Operator
I love it. I’ve been given set assignments and I’ve begun taking on more responsibility - looking after social media and some aspects of the website, as well as taking photos and designing banners and other marketing material. I’m learning new things all the time so I’m really growing in confidence.
Alexandra Shipperley, 18, Digital Marketing Apprentice
