Skills Training UK was Highly Commended with special recognition in the ‘Education and Training Provider of the Year’ and ‘Apprentice of the Year’ categories at the prestigious 2021 West London Business Awards held on Thursday 4th February.
Evette Smith, a Business Administration Level 3 apprentice at The Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital, was a Highly Commended finalist in the Apprentice of the Year category after being nominated by Skills Training UK. The award recognises apprentices who have made an exceptional contribution to their employer’s West London workplace.
The Education and Training Provider of the Year award celebrated the training providers who have made a positive impact on the local economy with training that supports employees and businesses to thrive.
The online ceremony, which marked the eighth year of the West London Business Awards, paid tribute to the business community’s talent, entrepreneurship, drive and resilience despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

We’ve made sure none of our learners faced any disruption to their courses, offering thousands of online learning sessions and one-to-one support through our flexible learning offer during the pandemic.
Martin Dunford OBE, Chief Executive, Skills Training UK, said: “Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have welcomed and continued to train young people and adults through apprenticeships, traineeships or one of our other vocational training programmes and to date have delivered over 5,000 online learning sessions, including approximately 1,560 to West London learners.
“We have also invested in our West London Centres and recently opened two new training centres in Wembley and Ealing, each with eight training rooms. They have been very positively received.”
Evette Smith works in the Billing Department at the Royal Marsden Hospital and is nearing completion of her Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship. Her goal is to upskill and develop further within her role in business administration.
Evette said: “I applied for the Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 3 because I knew I had more to achieve, more to give, but no way of showing this without a practical demonstration or up-to-date qualifications.
“I cannot afford to go back to college or university, but through the support of the Royal Marsden Hospital and Skills Training UK I am able to reach my full potential.”
