Non-Destructive Testing Engineer Level 6

This unique degree-level apprenticeship offered by Skills Training UK in partnership with the University of Northampton is the country’s only BSc Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

The programme includes advanced NDT techniques such as corrosion analysis, thermographic testing, vibration analysis and advanced inspection techniques.

You will also need to complete an extended project on a topic of your choice, relating to your work in NDT.

Employers will be able to select a specialist NDT Training school for practical assessment, including Lavender International, IMechE Argyll Ruane and the South West School of NDT.

What does a learner need to do?

Eligibility criteria

Apprentices must hold a minimum of two basic NDT Level 2 methods or at least one complex method (ultrasonic, radiography, eddy current, shearography, vibration analysis, acoustic emission, oil analysis or thermography) in order to be eligible for the BSc.

Additionally, they may hold advanced NDT qualifications, such as NDT Level 3 certification. Dependent upon prior qualifications, exemptions may apply.

Qualifications and professional recognition

On completion of the Apprenticeship, the NDT Engineer will hold a degree (BSc Non-Destructive Testing) & will have achieved a NDT Level 3 qualification.

The NDT Engineer will also be eligible to apply for professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and membership of the British Institute of NDT

End Point Assessment

To successfully complete the apprenticeship, the learner needs to pass an independent End Point Assessment which consists of three distinct assessment methods:
