Employees at Essex firm Youngman Group have found that it’s never too late to learn a new skill – and it is already paying dividends for their employers.
Youngman Group – based in Maldon – is an international leader in providing innovative, easy-access equipment including safety ladders and scaffolding. It enlisted the help of apprenticeships provider Skills Training UK to make sure it had a high-performing team in place to support the business as trade increases. It also wanted to be confident that each of its customers receives the same high level of service.
Mark Phillips, Customer Service Manager at Youngman Group, said: ‘I’m confident that we’re now offering our customers an even better level of service with all of the team now working to a recognised, professional standard. This has greatly contributed to the continuous improvement within the department, which is increasing our customer satisfaction all the time.”
The training has also supported plans for internal restructuring and promotion within the team. Mark adds: “The training has really helped to bring out the best in my team and has also supported our internal restructuring – we’ve recently promoted within the team creating a supervisor role and the training has really helped to make that transition seamless.”
Sharon Langstone, who works in customer services, said: “I’ve been with the company for 25 years and it’s really good to see the company investing in its staff. I was a bit anxious at first but the training has been a real confidence boost for me and I know I am much more capable and productive now.”
The tailored programme of training in the workplace was put together by Skills Training UK to best meet the needs of each member of staff in the customer service department and it covered Business Administration, Customer Service and Team Leading.
