Young people from the Wembley borough who have made positive strides into new jobs, Apprenticeships or further education celebrated their successes this week at an inspirational graduation and presentation afternoon hosted by Skills training UK with a special guest from the UK’s Youth Parliament.
High in the sky on the 21st floor of Wembley Point on Wednesday 19th December young people were awarded for their positive achievements and given the opportunity to network with a young representative of the UK Youth Parliament. The organisation provides opportunities for 11-18 year-olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change.
Harrow Youth Offending Team Leader Jiten Patel and Myra Whiskar from local rehabilitation centre, Sanctum also attended the event. The young people were presented with certificates and encouraged to discuss their time at Positive Directions over a buffet lunch.
Zain Sharif, a Learner from the Positive Directions programme said: “Positive Directions helped me get my qualifications and back on the straight and narrow. It was like being a part of a family and now I am studying plumbing at college.”
Young people at the event celebrated their successes on ‘Positive Directions’, a programme designed by locally based Skills Training UK exclusively for young people who have left school and have not gone onto further education or found employment.
Positive Directions gives the opportunity to develop skills for employment as well as gain new qualifications in Maths, English and IT. The programme also gives young people looking to start an apprenticeship the chance to develop employability skills. Tutors give one to one careers support as well as personal mentoring in trouble-shooting any issues or concerns faced by each young person.
Young people can enroll onto the programme on a flexible basis which means they can join at any time and further information can be gained by calling or texting Jhnique Gardener on 07860 695 729.
