Skills Training UK has announced a record number of 515 starts onto the Progress! programme in South East England during February, increasing the total number of people on the programme to over 3,000.
Through Progress! Skills Training UK and its supply chain partners help troubled families to break the cycle of worklessness and address the multiple barriers they face. Progress Coaches develop targets and Action Plans with individual family members and are a main contact point and mentor whilst they improve their employability skills and address other barriers including health problems, housing conditions or debt.
Skills Training UK has developed an extensive supply chain to deliver Progress! which includes public, private, and third sector organisations across the region and the eligible families are referred onto the programme through the 19 Local Authorities and Local Government Agencies, and Jobcentre Plus offices across the South East.
Martin Dunford OBE, Chief Executive of Skills Training UK, said: “We would like to thank the 19 Local Authorities involved, as well as the advisers at the Jobcentre Plus offices who have ensured the continued stream of referrals onto the Progress! programme. We have put in place a very effective and extensive supply chain to deliver Progress! which is helping people who are furthest from the jobs market to make positive steps towards turning their lives around.”
At the end of 2013 Skills Training UK won the Equal Opportunities Mainstreaming Leader Award from the European Social Fund (ESF), in recognition of its commitment to equality of opportunity as Prime Contractor of the ESF Families with Multiple Problems programme in the South East. The award was presented on 14 November during the World Skills UK Show which took place at the NEC in Birmingham.
