Introduction to the Principles of Management

Drive your career forward with the Level 3 Award in Principles of Management.  The course is designed to begin your journey into management with a good grounding in essential knowledge and skills such as leadership styles, managing performance.

You’ll also get to know about core business processes such as planning and reporting, recruitment, managing change and managing working relationships.

This course offers a great grounding for your first steps into management or to give you that confidence to succeed in a management role you already have.

Course content

Principles of Leadership and Management Styles

In this unit, you will be introduced to the functions of leadership and management and will learn about the differences and similarities between the two roles. You will also gain an understanding of the different leadership styles and how each style could impact on work procedures, and an understanding of motivational theories and their application in the workplace

Principles of Managing Performance

Managing and monitoring the performance of business activities plays an important role in supporting an organisation to achieve its goals and objectives. Managing performance in an organisation will include the management of staff performance and for an organisation to achieve its objectives, it will need to recruit, train and retain employees with the relevant skills and knowledge. Different views and values in the workplace can cause conflict and impact on business performance, so it is important that managers resolve conflict and support equality and diversity.

Eligibility

No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required.

Qualifications

Level 3 BTEC in Prinicples of Management.

Assessment

Level 3 award from a nationally recognised exam board.

The Level Principles of Management qualification seeks to provide learners with broader knowledge and understanding of how management and leadership styles and theories apply to the role of a manager. Understanding how a manager must effectively make decisions that align with the business objectives, but also assess the impact that the decision-making may have upon an organisation.

This qualification also seeks to help develop additional knowledge and understanding to support employment in roles with additional responsibilities. This includes knowledge of business planning and reporting, implementing change and business performance measurement and improvement.

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between organisational values and organisational culture and behaviour.
  • Analyse the features of a high-performance organisational culture such as consistency, coordination, and control.
  • Evaluate the influence of different groups of stakeholders on organisational culture e.g. owners, customers, and managers.
