Level 3 Award in Principles of Management is designed to provide learners with an introduction to the occupational knowledge and attitudes that are required for employment in roles such as Trainee Manager and Assistant Manager.

What does a learner need to do?

Attend regular classes either in-person or online.

Allow time for project work and study each week.

Talk to your trainer for support and guidance if you need more support.

Bring a positive attitude to class and any work experience to make sure you get the most from the opportunity.

Course content

The course comprises of three mandatory core units and seven optional, specialist units.

The core units ensure that all learners will develop:

  • Unit 1: Principles of Leadership and Management Styles
  • Unit 2: Principles of Managing Performance
  • Unit 3: Understanding Personal and Professional Development

Optional specialist units may include:

  • Unit 4: Understanding the Implementation of Change
  • Unit 5: Principles of Business Planning and Reporting
  • Unit 6: Understanding Recruitment and Selection
  • Unit 7: Principles of Business
  • Unit 8: Understanding How to Develop and Maintain Productive Working Relationships in Business Environments
  • Unit 9: Business Performance, Measurement and Improvement

Unit 10: Understanding Organisational Structure, Culture and Values

Eligibility

No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required.

Qualifications and outcomes

Level 3 award from a nationally recognised exam board.

The Level Principles of Management qualification seeks to provide learners with broader knowledge and understanding of how management and leadership styles and theories apply to the role of a manager. Understanding how a manager must effectively make decisions that align with the business objectives, but also assess the impact that the decision-making may have upon an organisation.

This qualification also seeks to help develop additional knowledge and understanding to support employment in roles with additional responsibilities. This includes knowledge of business planning and reporting, implementing change and business performance measurement and improvement.

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between organisational values and organisational culture and behaviour.
  • Analyse the features of a high-performance organisational culture such as consistency, coordination, and control.
  • Evaluate the influence of different groups of stakeholders on organisational culture e.g. owners, customers, and managers.

Assessment

The qualification and units are at pass grade.
