Routes to success
Weine, Razia, Maria, Wai Ling, Shinderpal and Lucia were recruited onto an ESOL into Work project between 2007 and 2008. They completed their ESOL Speaking and Listening L1 qualification and gained work placements at various organizations. Whilst on the course, they were also all able to complete their NVQ Customer Service Level 1.
Razia worked at East Living Housing Association, Weine at Peacocks, Maria at St John’s community project and Wai Ling at China Boulevard restaurant. Lucia started at Aylesbury Learning Centre and Shinderpal was already working at Debenhams in Ilford.

Since then Weine has a paid job at Peacocks, Maria started work at Sainsbury’s and Lucia is working at London City Airport as a Security officer. Wai Ling is now also a paid member of staff at the restaurant.
 
They became eligible for a Train to Gain qualification in Customer Service L2, and were able to continue to learn and improve their knowledge and experience, and  prove their competence at the higher level. All have now achieved this qualification and have gained considerable confidence and significant positive feedback from their employers.
 
As a result the learners are now in the process of enhancing their careers. Lucia is now applying for the role of a Customer Service Agent at the Airport and Weine and Maria are both working towards an NVQ in Childcare. Razia has been approached to apply for a customer service related role and Shinderpal’s employer has asked her to take on more responsibilities at work. Some of them also want to continue with the NVQ Customer Service Course at L3.

All six candidates are very thankful for the opportunities Skills Training has given them and appreciate the role Skills Training UK have played in moving them forward with their training, skills and most importantly, the personal confidence they have all gained from this progression.
